Press release
LARMgalleri is proud to present the solo exhibition “Christian Achenbach” with the German artist Christian Achenbach. Achenbach works in different styles, such as figuration and abstraction and these are combined in an explosion of colours, patters and figures that has similarities to the psychedelic album covers of the 1960’s.

The French philosopher Gilles Deleuze writes about the 20th century British figurative painter, Francis Bacon, that he has an ability to visualise the invisible, the formless, such as a movement or a sound. The same can be stated about the paintings of Christian Achenbach. In his works, he gives shape to the brief emotions and moods of the human mind. Thereby he visualises the lived experiences of a given situation.

Christian Achenbach paints interior, landscapes and people as he experiences them. They are always seen through his eyes and the painted situations are therefore loaded with emotions which bring to mind the landscapes of the 19th century German painter Caspar David Friedrich. Where Friedrich’s paintings are calm and romantic, Achenbach’s works describe the atmosphere of a more hectic life in an almost futuristic manner; a dynamic life full of vitality in the form of music and people dancing and furthermore the eternal fight between cosmos and chaos.

Christian Achenbach is educated from Universität Der Kunste (UDK), Berlin in 2001 under the professors Burkhardt Held, Daniel Richter and Anselm Reyle. In the future Achenbach will have solo exhibitions in Städtisches Museum, Engen in Germany from October to December 2012 and at The Kastrupgaard Collection in the beginning of 2013; a show that subsequently will be shown at Vendsyssel Kunstmuseum in the summer of 2013.
